This policy explains what information CrochetRooms uses to run accounts and live rooms, how browser media is handled, and the choices available to you.
CrochetRooms is a browser-based service for creating shared rooms, chatting, using voice/video, sharing a screen and watching supported third-party content together. We use only the information needed to provide these features, maintain accounts and operate the service.
Live camera, microphone and screen-sharing streams are designed to travel between room participants through WebRTC. CrochetRooms does not intentionally record those live media streams on the application server.
If you create an account, we may process your email address, display name, username, password hash, verification status, profile photo, bio, country, time zone, website and social profile handles that you choose to add.
Your password is not stored as plain text. We use password hashing for account authentication. Email verification and password-reset codes are temporary and expire.
If you use CrochetRooms as a guest, an account is not required for supported guest-access flows. We may still use the display name you provide while you are in a room.
To operate a live room, CrochetRooms processes room names/codes, room privacy state, participant display names, host status, microphone/camera/screen-sharing status, temporary room-chat messages, invite/access information and synchronized playback state.
If you use account-based social features, CrochetRooms may also store who you follow, room invitations you send or receive, and direct-message history so those conversations can be shown again later. Direct messages are separate from temporary room chat.
Room metadata may be stored on the server so an authorized account or returning guest can reconnect. A room is removed after it has remained empty for about 30 seconds. Public rooms are visible in the public-room directory only while active and marked public; private rooms are not listed there.
Your browser asks for permission before CrochetRooms can access camera, microphone or screen-sharing capabilities. You can deny or revoke those permissions through your browser or operating-system settings.
WebRTC may expose network information required to establish peer-to-peer media connections. The application server handles signaling and room state so participants can connect.
Only turn on a camera, microphone or screen share when you are comfortable sharing that media with the people currently in the room.
CrochetRooms uses an authentication cookie to keep signed-in accounts logged in. The site may also use localStorage and sessionStorage for preferences such as theme selection and temporary room-session information that helps with reconnecting or returning to a room.
You can clear cookies and site storage through your browser. Clearing them may sign you out or remove locally saved room/session preferences.
Some room features can use third-party services, such as YouTube for embedded video playback. When you load third-party content, that provider may receive information according to its own privacy policy and may set its own cookies or storage.
CrochetRooms is not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites or embedded services.
Account information, follow relationships, active room invitations and direct-message history may be retained while needed to provide those account features. Room metadata is removed after a room has remained empty for about 30 seconds. Temporary verification and password-reset codes expire automatically.
Browser-stored room tokens can remain on your device until the room closes or you clear site storage. Server, hosting or security systems may also create technical logs for reliability, abuse prevention and troubleshooting; infrastructure-log retention can depend on the hosting provider and operational needs.
We use reasonable technical measures such as hashed passwords, signed account sessions, email verification and restricted host controls. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so use a strong, unique password and do not share private room links with people you do not trust.
CrochetRooms is not intended to be used in violation of applicable age requirements. Parents and guardians should supervise minors' use of online camera, microphone and screen-sharing features where appropriate.
We may update this policy as CrochetRooms changes. When we make material updates, we may revise the “Last updated” date on this page.
